DCF HONORS ‘FRIENDS OF THE FOUNDATION’

LAWRENCEBURG, IND., November 20, 2007 – The Dearborn Community Foundation recently presented its prestigious Friend of the Foundation Award to Argosy Casino & Hotel, Pi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Inc. of Lawrenceburg, and the Rupel Family/Hidden Valley Golf Club.

“The Friend of the Foundation Award recognizes individuals, organizations or businesses who are strong supporters of the Foundation for a significant period of time,” said Fred McCarter, Executive Director of the Dearborn Community Foundation. “This year’s recipients of this honor are all long-time supporters of the Foundation and its belief in the power of philanthropy.”

Argosy Casino & Hotel: In November 2006, Argosy Casino & Hotel established the Dearborn County Register Warm The Children Endowment Fund. The purpose of the endowment is to support the work of The Register’s Warm the Children Program that provides warm clothing to children in need during the winter months. “Argosy is a long-time supporter of Warm the Children, but took its support to another level with the establishment of the new endowment,” McCarter said. “With contributions from others in the community, the endowment could someday provide the funds to support the entire Warm the Children program.” Additionally, Argosy has been a long-time supporter of the Foundation – providing sponsorships for the last five golf scramble fund-raisers along with supporting other events. Argosy also has allowed employees to serve on the Foundation board and committees – spending time away from work to serve their community.

Pi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Inc. of Lawrenceburg: In 1995, in preparation for its 100th birthday in 2005, members of the Pi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Inc. of Lawrenceburg decided to invest $500 a year in a mutual fund for a gift to the community when the organization hit the century mark in 2005. The members of Pi Chapter decided their gift should be something that continues to give back to the community long after current members are gone. So in late 2006, the organization established the “Lawrenceburg Pi Chapter of Kappa Kappa Kappa Inc. Endowment Fund.” The Fund’s purpose is to support the Pi Chapter’s charitable causes in perpetuity.

The Rupel Family & Hidden Valley Golf Club: The Dearborn Community Foundation has held an annual golf scramble fund-raisers for six straight years. The golf scramble is designed to raise operating funds to support the Foundations scholarship and grant programs. Thanks to the generosity of the Rupel Family and Hidden Valley Golf Club, the Foundation has literally been guaranteed a successful event each and every year. That’s because the Rupel’s and the golf club have provided the course to the Foundation with no green fees and no cart fees for each and every scramble it has hosted. “It goes without saying that this is a swell deal for the Foundation,” McCarter said. “The Rupel Family has also shown its support of charitable causes in Dearborn County through its establishment of two different endowment funds at DCF over the last several years.
