DCF ENDOWMENT MATCHING PROGRAM A HUGE SUCCESS, AS GENEROUS DONORS CONTRIBUTE $150,000
LAWRENCEBURG, Ind., November 30, 2009 – The Dearborn Community Foundation, Inc., (DCF) successfully wrapped up its 2009 Double Your Donation endowment matching program by receiving a total of $150,000 in contributions to new and existing endowments. The $150,000 in contributions combined with the $150,000 in matching funds available for the program equal an increase of $300,000 in DCF’s overall endowment for the community.
“It’s quite gratifying to see the generous response by folks to this extraordinary opportunity to provide perpetual funding for charitable causes in Dearborn County,” said Fred McCarter, DCF Executive Director. “This is the second straight year we’ve set aside matching funds and it’s clear that our goal to continue to involve more and more individuals, organizations and businesses in philanthropy is being achieved.”
DCF matched $1-for-$1 contributions made to new or existing endowments – doubling the original donation by contributors. A donor could contribute a maximum of $10,000 to be matched. The contributions were matched on a first-come, first-served basis as long as matching funds were available.
Nearly 100 different contributors made 134 donations totaling $150,000 to 36 different endowment funds, including eight new endowments. The overall endowment at the Foundation grew by $300,000 when the new contributions are combined with the $1-for-$1 match. DCF had more than 80 endowment funds totaling $9 million as of September 30, 2009.
“The new endowments, like our existing endowments, will provide scholarships for students and grants for charitable organizations and causes in perpetuity,” McCarter said. “The contributions by donors are greatly appreciated. It’s important to note that the matching program would not have been possible without the generous support of Dearborn County Council and the City of Lawrenceburg.”
The eight new endowments established during the 2009 DCF endowment matching program include:
