TWO INDUCTED INTO LEGACY SOCIETY
Four Organizations Honored As Friends Of The Foundation
Lawrenceburg, Ind., December 3, 2009 – Two new members were inducted into the DCF Legacy Society and four organizations were honored as Friends of the Foundation at the annual donor appreciation event in November.
The 2009 DCF Legacy Society inductees are Barry and Fayla Nanz, who are recognized for their dedicated effort to invest in the Dearborn County community through charitable endowment. Barry and Fayla bring the Foundation’s Legacy Society membership to a total of 54 members over the last 12 years. Each of the 54 individuals in the Legacy Society has contributed a significant endowment at DCF to support charitable needs in our community. Some have established scholarship endowment funds, while others have established designated or field of interest funds that support charitable organizations and causes in our community.
“Legacy Society members have chosen to make a difference in our community today, knowing that their gifts will continue to give tomorrow and forever into the future,” said Fred McCarter, DCF Executive Director. “They have created charitable legacies that others can and will help grow through additional contributions.”

Barry and Fayla Nanz of Lawrenceburg established the Nanz Family Scholarship Fund in the spring of 2008. The endowment was created to provide scholarships to graduates of Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn high schools. Barry and Fayla have chosen to allow their fund to grow for a few years before a scholarship is awarded from the fund. Their intent is to impact the lives of graduating seniors and/or past graduates of Lawrenceburg and South Dearborn high schools to help them attain their educational goals whether it is at a trade school, or a two-year or a four-year school. Barry is a member of the Foundation’s board of directors and he and Fayla along with their family members are leaving a legacy through their endowment at the Foundation.
2009 Friends Of The Foundation Honorees
The Foundation periodically recognizes individuals, organizations or businesses that are strong supporters of the Foundation. In 2009 four different organizations were honored as Friends of the Foundation:
South Dearborn Dollars for Scholars has raised funds for and awarded thousands and thousands of dollars in scholarships over the years. Several years ago the organization established an endowment at the Foundation to support Dollars for Scholars. But the organizations leadership has not stopped with one endowment for future scholarships. Since that first endowment was created, they have worked with Dollars for Scholars donors and DCF to establish five more endowments for a total of six.
Aurora Public Library District in the spring of 2008 decided to establish the Aurora Public Library District Fund to support the district’s operations. Library district director Mary Alice Horton was thinking of the future and how an endowment could support needs of the library district. The library district has also assisted the Foundation for many years through the use of the library display areas for a way to disseminate our messages to the community.
Dillsboro Volunteer Fire Department like many organizations in our community, receives contributions from the community from time to time. In the spring of 2008, the fire department decided to utilize some of those donations to establish the Dillsboro Fire Department Fund. The endowment fund is the first established at the Foundation by a fire department.
Main Street Aurora, Inc. established the Main Street Aurora Trail Fund in 2008 to support the Dearborn Trails. Main Street Aurora saw a need to provide for future upkeep of the popular recreational trail in their community, so they established the endowment fund. Main Street Aurora also has an endowment it established several years ago to support the organization’s operations.
