LAWRENCEBURG, Ind., WEDNESDAY, OCTOBER 5, 2022 – The Dearborn Community Foundation (DCF), Inc. recently awarded a $1,000 Proactive Grant to the Dearborn County Historical Society to preserve the county’s written records.

In a continuing effort to make an impact in the Dearborn County community, DCF is awarding 15 proactive grants of $1,000 each throughout 2022 to charitable organizations that serve Dearborn County residents. Each of the Foundation’s 15 volunteer board members recommends a grant. The money comes from the Foundation’s Unrestricted Endowment Funds, established by donors to provide flexibility to address changing needs in the community over the years. 

“I appreciate the work they do for local historical preservation,” said DCF Board member Fayla Nanz, who made the recommendation for a grant to the historical society. “Local history is important to me. I am a docent and board member of Hillforest, and it is critical we preserve our county’s written records and landmarks for the future.” 

Describing Aurora and Lawrenceburg as “lovely river towns with vibrant histories and great architectural features,” Nanz said county residents are fortunate that many people in the area, and the Dearborn County Historical Society in particular, continually work to keep local history available, updated, and preserved.

The grant from DCF was used to help purchase a “much needed” laptop computer, said Historical Society Vice President Jenny Awad, explaining the Society’s computers can no longer accept updates.

“We are very grateful for Fayla Nanz’s generosity and thank her for her community spirit. And we appreciate the proactive grant program offered through DCF,” said Awad.
