This scholarship was established in memory of Jim Scott, a radio legend who was beloved both on and off the air for his kindness and grace.  For nearly 50 years, he felt like a friend to millions of listeners who awoke to his voice – and he was that friend. Jim began his Cincinnati radio career in 1968 as morning show host for the iconic pop radio station 1360 WSAI-AM. From 1984 until his retirement in 2015, Jim was the morning man on 700 WLW, where he interviewed everyone from Presidents to movie stars and sports figures, global news correspondents to people you know in your community. In 2002, he received the prestigious Marconi Award, the radio equivalent of an Oscar. Jim was known, as well, as the voice of volunteerism where we live. Having survived polio as a child, Jim organized and led thousands on the annual 25-mile March of Dimes Walk in the 1970s and ’80s. He participated in and served as emcee for countless charitable fund-raisers and events. For over 50 years, Jim was a volunteer leader for United Way. The Salvation Army’s Red Kettle Campaign was especially dear to Jim’s heart. For 10 years, he was Greater Cincinnati campaign chairman and rallied hundreds of people each Christmas season to join him ringing the bells throughout the Tri-state. In 2024, shortly before ALS took Jim’s life, he participated in his 55th Findlay Market (Reds) Opening Day Parade, where he was honored and greatly celebrated as the parade’s Grand Marshal. Jim so loved living on a farm across the road from Perfect North Slopes for a half-century. His wife, Donna, established this scholarship for Lawrenceburg High School graduating seniors in memory of a man who always used his celebrity and person to do good and to make others feel special. His core motto and belief was, “Everyone deserves recognition,” and Jim lived it every day. He was the real deal.
